Round-up: House Education Committee Grills Northwestern, Rutgers and UCLA
Members of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce grilled the leaders of three more colleges Thursday about antisemitism on campus and how they resolved the pro-Palestinian encampments and protests that have rocked many campus this semester. Michael Schill of Northwestern University, Jonathan Holloway of Rutgers University, and the Gene Block of University of California, Los Angeles, “emerged largely unscathed, despite contentious questions from lawmakers,” according to media observers.
According to Inside Higher Ed, “While several Congressional Republicans (and a small group of Democrats) raged, the campus leaders appeared unfazed, remaining calm and collected in the face of sometimes barbed questioning. They seemed to have absorbed the lessons of the presidents who occupied the hot seat before them, demonstrating care and concern for their students while providing guarded answers and refusing to be intimidated by their interrogators.”
