Round-up: Supreme Court Blocks Sections of Biden Title IX Revisions

Implementation of the latest overhaul of regulations barring sex discrimination in education was blocked on Friday by the U.S. Supreme Court, leaving in place temporary injunctions lower courts issued that put on hold new protections for transgender students, along with other provisions.

The Biden Administration’s long-awaited revisions to Title IX was expected to go into effect on August 1.

The Supreme Court denied the Biden Administration’s appeal of lower court orders blocking implementation in 21 states.  The justices held the high court’s intervention at this stage in the litigation was unwarranted but noted that a federal appeals court had set an expedited schedule to consider the case, which pits Republican-led states opposed to expanding recognition of transgender students against Biden administration policy that seeks to expand protections for them.
