Cooper Union Names Laura Sparks Its New President

Cooper Union, the Manhattan arts and engineering school shaken by state investigations and administrative dysfunction last year, on Wednesday named a new president.  Laura Sparks, executive director of the William Penn Foundation in Philadelphia, will take the helm after a yearlong search, becoming the first woman to lead Cooper Union, the school said. She is expected to start in January.
