John Carroll University Forms Group to Study History of Slave-Owning Namesake

John Carroll University has established a working group to study the history of Jesuit slaveholding and the role of its slave-owning namesake.  The 15 members include administrators, faculty, alumni and students. The group is  charged with "developing a participative campus process to help us learn about the historical record and to make recommendations about how we acknowledge this history and grow in our commitment to justice for all people," wrote JCU's president, the Rev. Robert Niehoff, in an email to students on Tuesday.
