Rice Among Schools Facing Questions Over Massive Endowments

Rice University leaders last week announced they would raise tuition by more than $1,600 per year, pointing in part to economic uncertainty as a reason to charge more.  Federal lawmakers, however, are questioning whether wealthy private universities like Rice - which has nearly $5.6 billion set aside in an endowment - need the extra money.
