Trinity College President Talks Race, Relevancy of Liberal Arts

Last fall, when Joanne Berger-Sweeney began her first year as the president of Trinity College – the small and selective liberal arts school neatly tucked into the middle of Hartford, CT – she knew she was stepping into a role in which she would stand out. A year into her presidency, the issue of race has ignited campus protests, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing an affirmative action case, and a rapidly evolving workforce has called into question the worth of a traditional liberal arts education. U.S. News talked with Berger-Sweeney about these things, and about how she sees her role in the evolving higher education landscape.
