SLU to Cut 4 Percent of Staff, Administrators Next Week

Staff and administrators at St. Louis University are expected to find out Tuesday whether they are among the roughly 4 percent who will lose their jobs. That 4 percent represents about 120 employees, according to a campus-wide email from SLU President Fred Pestello on Friday. The impending layoffs have been a much-discussed issue on campus for months as school leaders addressed an ongoing budget crisis. SLU faces a $16 million budget deficit from this past fiscal year after a decline in enrollment and an uptick in expenses. The trend is projected to continue unless cuts are made, according to university leaders.
