Attorney Sues Erskine for Information on Drummond Center

If a private college receives state funds for a specific project, is it required to respond to public requests for information about the funds and project?  That’s the question Judge Donald Hocker must answer after hearing arguments Wednesday morning in the case Robert E. Merritt vs. Erskine College.  In 2006, Erskine received $700,000 from South Carolina’s General Assembly for “Drummond Center Erskine College Program Support.”  
In his lawsuit, Merritt attached a response to a Freedom of Information Act request he sent to the college in April asking for “all information as to the disposition and use of these funds from receipt by Erskine to the present.”
