In a Session on Sexual Assault, a College Suggested Masturbation. Was That a Mistake?
Last week, when 2,800 freshmen at the Rochester Institute of Technology participated in a five-day orientation, most of the sessions were standard fare, on issues like academic advising and diversity. But one presentation, titled "Alcohol and Chill: Let’s Talk About It," stirred controversy on social media. Its aim was one shared by orientation workshops at many colleges: to educate students about preventing sexual assault through strategies like risk reduction and bystander intervention.
