After a Dartmouth Student Nearly Died Hiking, Colleges Are Wary of Trips to the Outdoors in a ‘Litigious Society’
It was a close call, one that would prompt Dartmouth to investigate the incident and fortify its outdoor programming, which it had previously subjected to a “risk review.” While it’s difficult to conclusively determine whether or not the incident could have been prevented, the investigation did find that there was “significant room for improvement” in the college’s outdoor programming. Dartmouth declined to respond to The Chronicle’s questions about this case.
