Loss of Hiwassee College Felt By Community As Well As Students - Opinion Piece

Roland King writes: It's hard to quantify the impact of this one college closing. Midway between Chattanooga and Knoxville, Madisonville has no major industry, making Hiwassee one of area’s largest employers. Nearly 100 staff members live nearby, and if they can’t find alternate employment locally, they will move away. There is the loss of local spending by more than 200 students, and loss of business for dozens of regional companies that contracted with the college.
