‘This Is a Calling’: Two HBCUS in the Nation’s Capital Get New Presidents

Ben Vinson III, who starts Sept. 1 as president of Howard University, and Maurice Edington, who took office Aug. 1 as president of the University of the District of Columbia, spoke with The Washington Post last week about goals and challenges ahead. Vinson, a historian, was previously provost at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, while Edington, a chemist, was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Florida A&M University.
