Amid Budget Cuts, American University May Restructure School of Education

Facing budget cuts, American University is poised to restructure its School of Education, potentially moving it into a larger college on the campus, its top academic officer told some students and faculty in recent days, capping days of anger and confusion about the future of the stand-alone school. In an interview, acting provost Vicky Wilkins maintained Friday that no decision about the school’s fate had been reached and said she was still seeking input from community members as administrators considered ways to address a $60 million budget shortfall. A spokesperson added that no classes or programs would be cut and that students would still be able to graduate with a degree in education.
