Our Lady of the Lake University to Pay Millions Over Data Breach Lawsuit

Our Lady of the Lake University (TX) could end up paying millions of dollars to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit over a 2022 data breach that allowed hackers access to the personal information of nearly 42,000 students and employees. Hacked information included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, passport numbers, credit and debit card information and medical costs. Under terms of the deal, class members' ordinary out-of pocket expenses — including unreimbursed bank fees or losses due to identity theft — are capped at $400 each. Those expenses include up to three hours of lost time at $25 an hour.
