NPEC Issues Guide to HEOA Disclosure Requirements
The National Postsecondary Education Cooperative (NPEC) Working Group on the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 has issued a guide to help institutions navigate through the ever expanding list of disclosures required by the law. These disclosures range from financial aid to fire safety-with varying requirements on the means of disclosure and the individuals to whom the disclosures are directed.
Institutions are likely to find the summary chart included in Appendix A of the report to be particularly useful. It provides a brief summary of each requirement and describes how the information is to be disclosed. In addition, the report offers suggestions intended to address problems consumers face when searching for disclosed information, provides links to official sources for information on requirements, and sorts disclosure requirements by their target audiences.
The document, "Information Required to Be Disclosed Under the Higher Education Act of 1965: Suggestions for Dissemination," can be found on the NPEC website.
(Note: An updated version that incorporates information from the final HEOA regulations issued on October 29 is currently being prepared. It is expected to be available in late November.)
NPEC was established by the National Center for Education Statistics as a voluntary organization. Its membership includes agencies, institutions, and organizations with an interest in postsecondary education data collection. NAICU is represented in the group.
