International Grant Opportunities

Higher Education for Development (HED), founded through an agreement with USAID and the six presidential associations which includes NAICU, has recently posted several requests for applications for grants. The grants would fund partnerships between U.S. colleges and universities and those in certain developing countries.  Complete application information is available on the HED website.

  • West Indies Environmental Grant:  HED expects to make one award of up to $770,500 for three years for a higher education partnership between one U.S. institution and the University of the West Indies/Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (UWI/CERMES).

This partnership will build additional permanent, local capacity in the area of climate adaptation at UWI/CERMES.  The partnership will focus on research and policy and will result in tangible products such as expanded research, outreach to policy makers, short-course development for academic, public and private sector audiences and strategic planning to secure long-term funding.

  • Philippines Youth Grant:  HED expects to make one award of up to $1,071,500 for three years for a higher education partnership between a higher education institution(s) in the United States and Southern Christian College (SCC) in Mindanao, Philippines.  The purpose of the partnership will be to strengthen the capacity of SCC to develop the job skills and improve the livelihoods of rural, out-of-school youth in Mindanao.

  • Tunisia Higher Education and Workforce Grants:  HED anticipates making two awards of up to $500,000 each for three-year higher education partnerships.  The first award will be for a partnership with the Institut Supérieur des Etudes Technologiques de Sidi Bouzid (ISET Sidi Bouzid). The second award will be for a partnership with the Institut Supérieur des Etudes Technologiques de Médenine (ISET Médenine) and the Institut Supérieur des Etudes Technologiques de Tataouine (Tataouine).

The two partnerships will focus on improving higher education and workforce development programs at these Tunisian institutions to produce a workforce with the relevant skills to support the country development goals

Also, in the near future, HED plans on awarding grants for women's leadership development in Armenia, Paraguay, Rwanda, and Southern Sudan.  HED is also looking for greater participation in its programs by private colleges - including women's colleges and minority serving institutions.  It recently established partnerships between a number of Hispanic-serving institutions and Mexican institutions in cooperation with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
