NAICU Submits Statement of Support of the DREAM Act

In late June, the Senate Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security held a hearing to consider S. 952, the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2011 (the DREAM Act).  NAICU submitted a statement for the record in support of this important legislation.

The DREAM Act would allow young adults who were brought to the U.S. by their undocumented parents as children an expedited path to citizenship by completing high school and serving two years in college or the military, here in the U.S.  The DREAM Act also would allow them to continue living and working in the U.S. until citizenship is granted without fear of sudden deportation.

NAICU has long supported passage of the DREAM Act.  Providing citizenship to the undocumented youth in our country who have served in the armed forces or became educated in our colleges and universities should be a priority.  These individuals should be encouraged to become full participants in the U.S. labor market without risk of deportation.
