Dept. Ed. Sets HEA Title II Negotiated Rulemaking

On October 26, the Department of Education announced, through the Federal Register, the creation of a committee for negotiated rulemaking on elements of Title II of the Higher Education Act.  The topics to be covered include: 

  • Requirements for institutional and state report cards
  • Standards to ensure reliability on report cards
  • Criteria used by states to assess the performance of teacher preparation programs
  • Definition of "high quality teacher preparation program"
  • Definition of "high quality professional development program"
  • Service and repayment obligations for the TEACH Grant program

The department is looking for nominations for participants from a wide range of representatives such as students, teachers, financial aid administrators, business and admissions officers, state and local officials, institutions of higher education, providers of alternative routes to teacher preparation, and accrediting agencies.

Nominations are due November 25, 2011.
