Colleges Must Rewrite Sexual Assault Policies And Procedures Under HEA Amendment

Colleges must rewrite their campus policies and procedures dealing with sexual assaults under provisions of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013, signed into law on March 7. That law, which amends the campus crime provisions of the Higher Education Act, also expands the information colleges must incorporate into their annual crime reports to include acts of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking. In addition, the new law requires that if any of the reported crimes involved victims who were selected because of their actual or perceived national origin or gender identity, such information must be contained in the report.

A descriptions of the new definitions in the new Violence Against Women Act that colleges must use in preparing their annual security report are (here) and a mark-up of the changes to the law can be found (here).
