CHEA Seeks Comments on Proposed Revisions to Recognition Policy
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is soliciting comments on proposed revisions to its recognition policy and procedures. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to review the revisions at two meetings, one each in Washington, DC and Chicago.
The policy, which was last updated in 2010, describes the standards and processes that CHEA uses when determining whether to recognize accreditation agencies. Notable key features of the proposed revisions include:

- A de-emphasis on mission-based review
- New requirements that accreditors assess institutional performance based on measurable student learning outcomes
- Transparency provisions that would require accreditors to make certain information about the accreditation status of institutions publicly available, including information about any deficiencies with respect to accreditation standards
The two meetings, which will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will take place:
- August 14, 2018 in Washington, DC (One Dupont Circle, NW, Level 1B, Washington, DC)
