Administration Declares Confucius Institute a Foreign Mission of China
Citing it as “an entity advancing Beijing’s global propaganda,” the Department of State designated the Confucius Institute U. S. Center in Washington, DC a foreign mission of China.
The notice is not targeted at Confucius Institutes at individual colleges and universities across the country, but at the parent organization. However, the State Department is cautioning institutions with Confucius Institute language and cultural programs to be aware of the influence the Chinese Communist Party has in developing the curriculum and education provided by the institutes.
