Education Department Offers New Grant Funds to HSIs
The U.S. Department of Education issued a notice inviting applications for new grants for FY 2020 for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) to provide tools, resources, and programs to help institutions “expand educational opportunities for, and improve the academic attainment of, Hispanic students.” Offered through the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (Title V, Part A) Program, applications for the grant awards are due on February 10, 2020.
Institutions may use the funds to “expand and enhance the academic offerings, program quality, faculty quality, and institutional stability of colleges and universities that are educating the majority of Hispanic college students.”
The Association of Private Colleges and Universities of Puerto Rico has asked Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to extend the deadline due to earthquake damages sustained on the island. Secretary DeVos has not yet responded to this request. .
