Census Bureau Continues to Seek Assistance in Getting Accurate Count of Students

Last month, the Census Bureau sent a letter to college and university presidents seeking assistance in getting an accurate count of students living on- and off-campus.  To date, the agency has only received data from slightly more than half of student housing facilities, and is once again asking colleges and universities for help providing a more complete count of its students.

The bureau, which would like to complete enumeration of student housing by July 31, suspects the low response rate may be due to requesting data on residents living in student housing “as of April 1,” when many students had already been sent home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Colleges can submit data for on-campus student housing via the bureau’s eResponse webpage. For help submitting data for on-campus students contact the bureau at dcmd.group.quarters.eresponse@census.gov.

To submit data for off-campus student housing, contact the bureau at geo.Swim@census.gov.
