VA Clarifies Policy on Housing Allowance for Online Courses
In a recently updated FAQ document, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) clarified its policy related to providing a housing allowance for students who are veterans. According to the VA, veteran students who are taking courses and attending a residential college or university that has converted its instruction to an online only environment because of the coronavirus will continue to receive the full amount of their housing allowance, not the lower rate usually provided for online courses under non-COVID conditions.
The authority for this exception is valid from March 1 to December 21, 2020, and will need to be extended for the spring semester if coursework continues to be delivered online because of the coronavirus.
