Sen. Alexander Presides Over His Last Hearing on FAFSA Simplification
For the fifth, and final, time during his tenure as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) held a hearing regarding the need to simplify the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). As in previous hearings, the witnesses this week again articulated the need to simplify the FAFSA to better ensure that students have access to federal student aid.
In 2019, Sen. Alexander introduced the FAFSA Simplification Act of 2019, which sought to reduce the number of questions on the FAFSA from 108 to between 18 and 30.
Simplifying the FAFSA has been a longtime goal for Sen. Alexander who is retiring at the end of this Congress. It is fitting that it was the subject of the last education hearing to be held under his leadership.
