NCAA Adopts Interim Policy to Address NIL

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced this week that the governing bodies of all three college divisions adopted a uniform interim policy suspending NCAA name, image and likeness rules for all current and incoming student-athletes in all sports effective July 1, 2021.

July 1 is an important date as a growing number of states have passed NIL legislation that goes into effect on this date.

By adopting this interim policy, the NCAA hopes to buy time until federal legislation is passed, which would create a national policy on NIL, or a more detailed NCAA NIL policy can be developed.
