Administration Renews Commitment to International Education

This week, the Departments of Education and State issued a joint statement, the first such statement between the two agencies in twenty years, on the value of international education to our nation.  In addition to touting the benefits of research, the extraordinary document also describes American higher education as “among our most precious assets as a nation.”

The four-page statement touched on a number of benefits to international education, both for students who come to the United States to study as well as Americans who go overseas.  Included in the long list of plusses are economic, societal, cultural and strategic advantages.

The statement also included a list of ten principles that will guide the Administration’s renewed approach to international education.

The statement was released via email to the education community by the Department of Education.  The statement was timed to be released during this week’s EducationUSA Forum 2021, a State Department initiative that promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world.
