Education Department Launches Resource to Help Schools Safely Reopen

The Department of Education launched the Safer Schools and Campuses Best Practices Clearinghouse to provide educational institutions with advice and information about how to safely reopen for in-person learning. The Clearinghouse will be a place to share and highlight best practices and lessons learned for operating safely during and after the pandemic.

According to the Clearinghouse, its “collection of lessons learned and best practices provides resources to identify and support the needs of all students and particularly historically disadvantaged students, to ensure all have access to a high-quality education.”

The Clearinghouse will offer best practices resources, federal, state, and local resources, technical assistance, and access to webinars and events.

The Clearinghouse was established in response to President Biden’s Executive Order regarding the safe reopening and continuing operation of schools. The order directed the Department, in consultation with the Department of Health and Human Services, to provide institutions of higher education, among others, with guidance on safe reopening, advice about online learning and mental health support, technical assistance, and support for contact tracing.
