Deadline Approaching for Title IV-Eligible Institutions to Apply for Second Chance Pell
The Department of Education issued a reminder about the upcoming October 28 deadline for interested Title IV-eligible postsecondary institutions to apply for participation in the Second Chance Pell experiment by submitting a letter of interest.
First launched in 2015 during the Obama Administration, and expanded in 2020 to include more programs, the Second Chance Pell program provides Pell Grants to incarcerated students in state and federal prisons. Since 2015, over 22,000 students have enrolled in a Second Chance Pell program in 30 states and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Earlier this year, the Department announced that letters of interest will be accepted from Title IV-eligible postsecondary institutions to participate, beginning with the 2022-2023 award year, in the program under the Experimental Sites Initiative.
