HSI Grant Competition Now Accepting Applications

The Department of Education is inviting applications for new awards for the Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans Programs (PPOHA). This program provides grants to eligible institutions of higher education to expand postbaccalaureate educational opportunities for Hispanic students and expand the postbaccalaureate academic offerings at HSIs.

The Department plans to award no more than 12 grants, with a maximum award of $600,000 for a year. Applications are due July 28, 2022.

This competition includes one absolute priority and two competitive preference priorities. The absolute priority mandates that grantees work to increase the number of Hispanic students, and other underrepresented graduate and professional students, who can be served by the institution by expanding courses and institutional resources. The two competitive preferences priorities consist of the following:
  • Meeting student social, emotional, and academic needs; and
  • Increasing postsecondary education access, affordability, completion, and post-enrollment success.
