Grants Available for Institutions Serving Large Numbers of Minority Students

The Department of Education has announced new grant competitions for institutions of higher education in the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) program and the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP).

Applications are due May 30.  To submit an application, the Department requests that institutions refer to the Common Instructions for Applicants to Department of Education Discretionary Grant Programs

The AANAPISI program provides grants to eligible institutions of higher education to assist with improving and expanding capacity to serve Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander students, while the MSEIP program is designed to increase the participation of underrepresented ethnic minorities in the STEM fields. Both programs have the two competitive preference priorities below that institutions would need to meet to be competitive for the grant funding:
  • AANAPISI - Meeting student social, emotional, and academic needs (up to 5 points) and increasing postsecondary education access, affordability, completion, and post-enrollment success (up to 5 points).
  • MSEIP - Increasing postsecondary education access, affordability, completion, and post-enrollment success (Up to 9 points) and new potential grantees who have not received this funding award in the last seven years (3 points).
