$900 Million in Education Department Contracts Cancelled
The Trump Administration cancelled contracts worth an estimated $900 million issued by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the research arm of the Department of Education responsible for education data collection and distribution, program evaluation, and long-term research.
While the precise list of cancelled contracts remains unknown, some notable contracts have been affirmatively spared, such as the College Scorecard, College Navigator, and the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Others have been identified as cancelled through reports from affected researchers and staff, such as the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study and What Works Clearinghouse.
These cancellations add to the growing list of cuts being made at the Department, which has also seen large swaths of staff placed on leave, including nearly 100 employees placed on leave for attending a diversity, equity, and inclusion training in February 2020.
