About Private Colleges

The nation's 1,700 private, nonprofit colleges and universities enroll more than 5.2 million students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. 

Private, nonprofit higher education sector is highly diverse, including major research universities, church-related colleges, historically black colleges, art and design colleges, traditional liberal arts and science institutions, women's colleges, two-year colleges, and schools of law, medicine, engineering, business, and other professions.
