The economic impact of the private, nonprofit sector of higher education in FY 2018 and academic year 2018 2019 totaled $591.5 billion.
Additionally, the sector directly employs more than 1.1 million people and supports and sustains another 2.3 million jobs. Private, nonprofit colleges and universities contributed nearly $80 billion in local, state and federal tax revenue. And, perhaps most importantly, the sector graduates some 1.1 million students each year.
