The economic impact of private, nonprofit higher education totaled $591.5 billion in FY 2018. This figure represents the total output generated in local, statewide and national economies. It is a point-in-time snapshot that demonstrates how the expenditures of private, nonprofit colleges and universities, their faculty, staff, students and visitors all make an impact. This impact is spread across the country from small rural communities to large urban cities; and in many cases the college is an anchor in the community with a substantial impact on a multitude of sectors in the local economy.
